"Textile Conservation" with Faye Walcher

In her presentation, Faye Walcher will discuss the effects of the elements on fibers and fabrics. These can include light, pH, humidity, dirt and oils, and pests. She will discuss proper storage and mounting, and appropriate cleaning and treatments of different fabrics. She can also discuss restoration and stabilization of textiles that have begun to deteriorate. After this education, we should know how to better care for our precious creations.

Faye Walcher, proprietor of Conservators of Fine Fabrics, has operated a professional textile conservation business since 1979. She has cleaned, mounted and repaired museum-quality textiles and costume for individual clients, as well as corporate clients such as Arco Visual Arts Center, L.A.; Neutrogena Corporation, Worldwide; Bank of America, San Francisco; teaching institutions, framers and museums.

Ms. Walcher has a Master of Arts Degree in Textiles and Clothing, from CSU Long Beach, CA; a Certificate in Historic Preservation from Cypress College, Cypress CA; and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Applied Art from Iowa State University, Ames IA.
