SCHG September 2005:
The Southern California Handweavers' Guild presents
Play with Plain Weave!
with Diana Brenna

Saturday, September 10, 2005

Location: Los Angeles Valley College, 5800 Fulton Ave, Valley Glen
Math/Science Building, Room 101 in the Physics building (Directions)
General Meeting and Program Time: 10:00 a.m.

Diana Brenna, a not-so-plain weaver, will give a 1 ½ day workshop for us September 10, 2005, 12 - 4 PM and September 11, 2005 9- 4PM. We will also have her for our morning meeting with a hands-on program which will include slides of her works as well as examples to 'pore over.' Her lecture will include demonstrations of wrapping yarns to plan warps for interesting and exciting finished textiles.

For those that are not familiar with Diana's extraordinary work, an additional picture of one her handwoven costumes, Cathubodva - Lady of Ravens from Celtic Legends is available at The Tablet Weaver's Gallery http://www.weavershand.com/gallery3.html. Diana was a member of our guild as well as Designing Weavers before she moved north to the central coast. She has shown her work at Convergences and conferences. See her piece modeled by her daughter, in Shuttle, Spindle and & Dyepot, Fall '96, p.41.

The workshop will accommodate loom and non-loom weaving participants. Diana says; " I do my own sampling for loom weaving on a Fischer Price Toy Loom! REALLY! So....you don't need a sophisticated loom to enjoy this workshop."

Sounds like this should be a fun workshop and we are really going to "PLAY" as Diana said.

Contact Karen Leckart email karenwvr@gmail.com. The morning program is open to all and free to members and visitors. The workshop is limited to 15, cost: Full Members $55, others $65

General program questions can be directed to the Program Committee. We hope to see you at the September meeting!
