Susan's Pink and Green Lariat

SCHG June 2005:
The Southern California Handweavers' Guild presents
Beading for Handweavers
and a Field Trip to the Bead Store!
with Susan Marsh

Saturday, June 11, 2005
10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Location: San Gabriel Bead Company
325 East Live Oak, Arcadia, CA 91006

The San Gabriel Bead Company is an amazing bead store. It’s huge! It has everything! And it’s the location of our June 11 meeting. Come prepared to shop. In addition to a wide range of beading classes, they have classes in glass, metal, wire, soldering, Precious Metal Clay, mosaics, and basketweaving. Check out their class schedule at http://www.beadcompany.com/. 3-sided right angle weave - Stitch Detail

Our own Susan Marsh has been taking beading classes for about 15 years, many of them at the San Gabriel Bead Company and its predecessors. (The store has moved and changed names a few times over those years.) She will share with us the essentials of working with seed beads in a presentation titled “Beading for Weavers.” She will also attempt to teach us 3-sided right angle weave, an off-loom beadweaving stitch that makes a pretty lariat or necklace. If you have seen Susan’s pink and green lariat, that’s the stitch.

Everything you need is available for purchase at the San Gabriel Bead Company. If you have a portable Ott light, bring it. If you need magnification to see small things, bring whatever you have. (Susan likes Mag-Eyes.) You can buy a beading surface, or bring a napless dishtowel. (You need something to keep your beads from rolling off the table!) Bead sizes we will experiment with are 6°, 8°, or 11°. You need at least two contrasting colors of whichever size you choose. There is something to be said for learning with the bigger beads (6°, 8°) even though the 11°s look nicer.

For questions about this program/workshop, please contact Susan at treasurer@schg.org. General program questions can be directed to the Program Committee. We hope to see you at the June meeting!
