Program: "Bird’s Nests and Spider’s Web – A Look at Bonnie Cashin"

"Wouldn’t it be nice if I could get a tweed from a bird’s nest and a spider’s web" said Bonnie Cashin, one of the most acclaimed Fashion Designers of the 20th Century.

With an adventurist spirit, Bonnie Cashin shaped American Sportswear from 1940-1977. Passionate about simple shapes and avoiding unnecessary cutting and seaming she created elegant fashion from the shapes beloved by handweavers. Funnel necks, ponchos, Japanese Noh coats even tabards were fashioned into practical, wearable and flattering garments.

Learn about the fascinating life, passion and design process of this pre-eminent American Sportswear designer through images of sketches, fabric and photos from the Bonnie Cashin Archives at the UCLA Special Collections Library. 90 Minute lecture with slides.
