Saturday morning program - free to members and guests

Norma and Laurie will demonstrate the versatility and ease of using polymer clay to make accessories that can be matched or contrasted.

Norma Paley's love affair with the arts started early in life. After graduating from Hunter College, she continued her art studies with many classes and workshops in various disciplines. She has taught polymer clay techniques and ceramic hand building and sculpture, as well as weaving. Recently she had been involved in the design and fabrication of jewelry in precious metals, stones and beads working in a studio she shares with her daughter, Laurie Shaffer, who inherited her mother's love of art. After two years at the California College of Arts and Crafts, Laurie earned a B.F.A. in Graphic Design from Washington State University. Since then she has been involved in fine art and craft design. At present, she is designing and fabricating jewelry using polymer clay and epoxy resin.

Saturday Afternoon workshop, 1 - 4 p.m.

polymer clay buttons - green and purple coiled

The afternoon workshop will allow for an in depth hands-on opportunity to make buttons and beads and/or pins that can be matched or contrasted and designs incorporated to enhance hand woven garments.. The buttons are strong and can be hand washed in cold water. Supplies required: Participants should bring a work surface of smooth tile, glass (with taped edges) or Formica board 8" x 10". Those are best but a piece of card stock or several sheets of heavy paper will work if taped down. Also an old towel or rag to wipe hands and tools. Baby wipes are excellent cleaners. Plastic wrap and/or baggies to wrap work and clay. A kit containing several colors of Premo polymer clay and three tools will be supplied at a cost of $15 payable to Norma at time of workshop.

To register please send workshop fee: $27.50. Make checks oavable to SCHG and send to Stella Goren (address in your year book).
