California Rags(c) Rag Woven Clothing
with Trudie Roberts

Saturday and Sunday, January 8-9, 2005

General Meeting and Program Time: 10:00 a.m.

Saturday Program: Morning Lecture:
California Rag Woven Clothing

When Trudie Roberts developed her California Rags(c) technique in 1982, some described it as "the most significant weaving innovation in forty years." Still producing her one-of-a-kind garments, Roberts continues to experiment with new ideas and materials. Her small format tapestries, woven with thread, have had considerable success as have her dimensional wire sculptures woven in double weave. Both have won international awards.

Workshop:
1-1/2 Day Workshop (Saturday afternoon and Sunday, January 8-9, 2005)

Both hand-painted and commerical fabrics are cut into "rag" strips and then woven with a variety of yarns to produce fabrics which look like complex tapestries. The workshop will begin with a lecture, slide show, and lots of garments to explore. The actual weaving of a garment and finishing sewing tricks and patterns will enable participants to create their own special fabrics. Students will bring a pre-warped loom to class. Rigid heddle looms can be used. Supply list provided upon registration. Workshop limited to 12 participants!
