SCHG December 2002:
"Jewelry from Fiber" with Marion Hunziker-Larsen

Saturday 11 January 2003, 10:00 a.m.
Location: Los Angeles Valley College, 5800 Fulton Ave, Valley Glen
Math/Science Building, Room 113 (Directions)

Program (lecture) on Saturday morning:

In her presentation, Marion will present her work using various textile techniques in making jewelry. She combines knotting, half-hitching, kumihimo braiding and cordmaking of silk and nylon threads, using as many as 500 knots per square inch. In some of her pieces, copper wire armatures serve as structural support for the thread, permitting semi-precious gemstones, fossils or crystals to be set. Marion’s pieces are one of a kind, labor of love involving many hours of design and execution. They are conversation pieces that can rival pearls and diamonds at any gathering.

Marion was born and raised in Geneva, Switzerland, and now lives and maintains a studio in the San Francisco Bay Area in Redwood City. She is married to an artist painter muralist and together they have two children. Marion is self-taught in fiber and textile techniques, and has done experimentation with arts & crafts in Switzerland, as well as an apprenticeship in Metalsmithing. Her publications include articles in American Craft Magazine, Ornament, Los Angeles Times, New York Times, Fiberarts and Rock & Gems. She also lectures, gives workshops and shows at art and craft markets.
