About the Southern California Handweavers' Guild |
Founded in 1946, the Southern California Handweavers' Guild (SCHG) is the guild in southern California covering the largest geographical area. With over 120 members, it is also the largest in membership (as far as we know). Many members of smaller local guilds also maintain membership in SCHG.
The motto of the guild is to "Weave today to preserve the past and create for the future."
The objectives of SCHG, as stated in the by-laws, are:
Regular meetings of SCHG are held on the second Saturday of each month, from September to June (inclusive), with some exceptions. For a current calendar of upcoming meetings and programs, please see our programs page.

Parking is free to the guild on Saturdays and Sundays. Turn onto the campus from Fulton or Oxnard. We meet in AHS 143 of the Applied Health and Science Building. Park in Lot G right next to the building. (See map.)
SCHG meets on the second Saturday of each month -- September, October and December through June. The first Sunday in November brings our exciting annual Weaving and Fiber Festival (WeFF), currently held in Torrance. Occasionally an off site field trip is held in lieu of our regular meeting.
A typical Guild day begins at 9:00 am. Our morning meeting, which is free to all, usually includes Show & Tell, Announcements, Q & A, and a morning presentation on weaving or some other topic in fiber arts. The morning meeting adjourns at about noon. Often there is an afternoon workshop given by the morning lecturer. Workshops are limited in size, require prior registration and a fee, and sometimes include a Sunday morning and afternoon session. Please refer to our Programs page for more information.
Visitors are welcome at our meetings. We love finding new fiber people! Whether you are an experienced weaver or fiber artist, or brand new to the craft, you are welcome to attend our program. Please introduce yourself!
Check the Tie-up bulletin or the Programs page for definite
times and location.

SCHG owns an extensive library open to our members. We have over 1000
books, periodicals, and magazines about weaving and related fiber arts,
including fascinating old items as well as new publications. The library is
a great resource for inspiration, design considerations or technical help.
There is something available for all levels of weavers.
Our library is
located on Van Nuys Blvd between Vanownen Street and Sherman Way in Van
Nuys, CA. For access and specific location, contact our librarian to set up an appointment.
